Moving on from $dayjob

Those who know me or follow me, will know I have been working at the same company for the past 6 years or so; as of this month, that is no longer the case.

I enjoyed so much of working at CV-Library, specifically working with some amazing people and on a Perl codebase that served and continues to serve literally millions of people.

But all things must end and we need to keep changing and moving onwards. So I have decided to leave and seek new challenges. I shall update what those challenges are as time goes by. I am seeking some technical and organisational/business challenges.

Before starting at another $dayjob I am doing some travelling (just back from Azerbaijan and off to China and Switzerland next). I am also doing some project work.

This year with a colleague fantasy-judo.com was born; this is a fantasy sports website, written in Golang. I am currently writing a Amazon Alexa skill in Javascript for the International Judo Federation, bringing the functionality of judobase.ijf.org to a voice interface.

Working on a voice interface is teaching me a lot. From brushing up on my JS and the Amazon AWS tools through to understading the tooling and challenges of voice based interactions.

Recently I have been enjoying, but missing the Scuttlebutt scene. So I also want to some digging into not only the code; but also the underlying cultural and organisational elements of the SSB universe.

So please stay tuned for more posts as my life gets turned upside down and inside out. If you want to follow me socially; scuttlebutt is the place to go. Linkedin for any business type connection, and twitter for random noise from me.
